Local treasure, first run, and art movies, along with some of the best pizza that can be found anywhere. Don't forget whole wheat dough. Get there early and grab a place on one of the couches.

In the midst of the busy main street, stands the Reel Pizza Cinerama. We were so tired roaming about Acadia national park so wanted something relaxing, fun n entertaining. While browsing on yelp we figured out this place n thought it might be the perfect one. We dropped in to watch the movie "Dismal in distress". That day the director of the movie was there to talk about the movie. As soon as your enter there is the cafe, you could order your pizzas, get a beer, a drink, soda n stuffs. There are only two auditoriums n these are not so huge ones. They are pretty decent small ones. Inside, there were couple of chairs (regular theatre kinda) in front of it there was a small table kinda, to keep the food/drinks. This space is comfortable to eat n watch the movie. In front of these were a few couches n a few side tables, which helped to keep the food. Loved their concept of Pizza + Beer + Movie. Great selection of pizzas. Loved their names. The pizzas were over priced I felt otherwise everything was awesome. When buying tickets for the movie make sure you carry cash, this counter accepts cash only. Otherwise they accept credit cards / debit cards for the pizza n stuffs. Not to worry about parking, they have a private lot.

Pretty good pizza. A ton of unique combinations. They have beer as well. Popcorn is super cheep which is awesome. U order then go pick your seat in the theater. Choose from a seat with a built in table or a cozy couch with a TV tray. When your food is ready the bingo board kites up with your number to let you know it's good. We had a great time and would defiantly go again :)

This place is a welcomed relief after being on the go all week in Acadia. We saw the opening night of Ice Age 4 with our 9 yo daughter and really enjoyed ourselves. The pizza was great, the beer was great, and the seating was memorable. The lines to get in start to form early, so plan on getting there about 45 minutes before the show time if you want to get a seat on one of the sofas.
(5)Wyatt N.
The food, the experience, and the staff are all unique. The couches are a great feature no other place has. Just wish it was a little bit better organized, and the pizza cooked longer!

I appreciate Reel Pizza's commitment to being a year round business, their showing of both blockbusters and indie/arty movies, and having beer and wine as movie watching options. Looking for something to do on a rainy day in Bar Harbor? This is a great option.

This place was so much fun! It was a totally unconventional place. The seating was a mish-mash of regular seats with counter tops in front of you for your food. Those seats in the very front of the theater are an eclectic mix of recliners and sofas. They have pizza with any topping imaginable, tons of fun things like artichokes, sun dried tomatoes, whatever you could want. They have draft beer and wine, not sure about anything else. It was a really fun, relaxed atmosphere that had just the right amount of kitschy old school vibe.

We just returned from a really fun night at Reel Pizza Cinerama. We decided to split up the family across the two theaters, since we have different taste in movies. I must say that the pizza was absolutely delicious! They offer a variety of specialty pizzas, as well as the option to create your own. Really, really good with an extensive list of topping options, including gourmet options such as fresh basil leaves and local goat cheese! My husband enjoyed their draft beers, including two local varieties. They offer pitchers of cold water in the back of each theater, along with shakers for the pizza, paper plates, and napkins. There are a couple rows of sofas at the front of each theater with tray tables available to put your food, and the rows in the rest of the theater have movie theater chairs with a long ledge/table attached to the back of the chairs in front of you. The sofas are a fun and comfy option. Tips: Get in line early, especially if you want to see the first showing of a new/popular movie! I arrived at 4:15 (box office opens at 4:30), and there were already at least 20 people in line. We were able to get tickets without difficulty, but we would have had a better seat choice if we had been further up in line. Either way, grab a paper plate from the back of the theater, write your name on it, and save your seat(s) while you head back to the lobby to order your pizza. You can wait for your pizza back at your seat until your plastic pizza slice lights up to alert you that it's ready. They even have oven mitts to carry them back to your seat.

I love the idea of a movie thearter with couches, but I was just to scared to pull the trigger, not knowing what might be in or on the cushions... Mf gf and I stuck to the normal seats, which convienetly had a small table right in front of them. The pizza was solid, and they had a small but decent beer selection. Perfect for a rainy day on MDI.
(4)James B.
Possibly the best pizza on the island... This is a high quality operation. Food, movies and beer are reasonably priced. It's great for take-out. Toppings are skimpy so splurge and order doubles. This place is very popular, especially in bad weather. Wait in line in the afternoon for tix, then wait again for seating. It's kind of annoying, but folks don't seem to mind.
(4)Chase F.
This small theater is a lot of fun, its more casual than other theaters, and you can order pizza and enjoy it during the movie. The pizza was excellent, and reasonably priced, and the beer was even cheap for what I was expecting to pay. The movies are a little obscure but they seem to get well reviewed movies in so thats a plus. Also the movie tickets are $6, unheard of!
(5)Nick N.
I've been coming here annually for ~20 years now, and its always great fun. Cool staff, clean theaters. I wasn't always a huge fan of the pizza, but I think it's gotten much better the past few years (as in, I'd willingly pick it over Papa John's or Pizza Hut any day); well worth the price, and you're probably not broke if you're vacationing in Bar Harbor anyway.
(5)Erica M.
This is probably the best movie theater that I have been to in years! A movie ticket is only $6, the pizza is pretty darn good, and the beer selection is great. There are local beer options, the prices are decent, and the seats in the theater are comfortable. I enjoy the independent/local feel of this place, and I think we need more places like Reel Pizza! I was thrown off by the intermission, but was very happy once I realized that it was an intermission and not a film issue. It was nice to get a bathroom break. I wish this place was closer to where I live!
(5)Julia N.
When I first came across this place, I didn't understand it. A staffer explained: "You can drink a beer and eat pizza while you watch the movie." BRILLIANT! Pizza = great. Beer = great (I like the Bar Harbor Real Ale, which is all over this town). Movie = great. There are couches and an intermission and people get up to fetch another pint and the oregano shaker and whatnot, so this is a more casual viewing experience than your typical AMC. Tickets go on sale in the afternoon and sell out on busy weekends, so come early. I sat next to a local dude and had an excellent chat about shark fishing.

The experience here is just so far from a normal moviegoing experience it's like another universe of joy and tasty food. You go in, purchase your ticket, saunter past the quirky pop-art with a local flavor hung on the walls. Stroll into the theater and take a seat.... On a couch. An honest to goodness, comfy, squishy couch. You decide you feel like some food and maybe a beverage. You hop up (don't worry, people are nice and won't take your seat), head to the lobby. Order a slice of pizza, a cup of locally brewed beer, and a cookie. Take your cookie and beer back to your seat while your pizza is cooked FRESH. The movie starts, and after a short while you see the number on your concession receipt light up on a repurposed bingo announcement board on the wall, the usefulness of such a tool whirling around your awareness to the point of being staggering. Taking your slice of pizza back to your poofy seat, you set up one of the many tray tables put out by the theater owners for this very reason before allowing cheesy, tomato-ey goodness to cascade over your taste buds. By the time you leave, you've had a movie theatre event like no other: a film at Reel Pizza.

My one worry coming here was that they'd figure the novelty of dinner/movie theater would be enough that they wouldn't have to bother making the pizza any good. Thankfully this is not the case. It's not going to blow you away but it is better than a Domino's or (insert chain here). As others have mentioned, there is beer. Which is always a plus. It's pretty much what I expected otherwise. Pretty good theater. Pretty good pizza. Combining the two didn't really make one or the other amazing. And yet, it's been a little over a year and every so often I think to myself "Y'know, it'd be nice to do that again." and so I've given it an extra star because I figure anything that creates a new craving in you probably earned it somehow, even if I can't figure out what witchcraft they used to cause this. Another positive: fourteen bucks here will actually get you and your date a real meal as opposed to just some popcorn (though they have that too).

Cue the Gershwin: I've got pizza, I've got movies, I've got vino....who could ask for anything more?! My sister and brother in law have been raving about Reel Pizza for as long as I can remember. We finally had the chance to visit on Saturday night and saw Transformers 3. You cannot beat Reel Pizza. We had a Greek Pizza, which was really well made (whole wheat crust, even!) and a few tumblers of wine. This may have been part of the reason why I turned to my husband and remarked: "This is the best movie I have ever seen." The theater is cozy, the prices are absolutely reasonable and the pizza is really good.
(5)Kate B.
The pizza is excellent!! Even if you don't go for a movie, go get a pizza for take-out. The theater is small and you have a counter in front of you or a side table in front of a couch. It's really cute. Bring extra pillows if you want to be more comfy. Movie tickets are cheap but only go on sale the day of from the ticket window so arrive early and come hungry! (also, there is an intermission!)
(5)Karen W.
This place was great!!! I set off on a trip to Bar Harbor hoping to take in alot of Arcadia, instead I got lots of rain, sometimes wind and pretty damn near close to freezing ( I did have one nice day in the park, even if I was all bundled up). So having a place like this to escape to was awesome, just what I needed. Pizza was tastey, sinking into a couch was grand, and to take in a movie to boot (which I almost never do) was a great way to end a rather wet weekend getaway. All the comforts of home, with none of the work.
(5)Jim B.
Watch a movie, Eat Pizza, get trashed, sit in fucking armchairs. I love that every establishment in Bar Harbor has local brews. It doesn't matter where you are, they have beer on tap.
(5)Larry C.
The best movie experience I've had in years. The pizza is great, with a lot of vegetarian options, and they have real butter to top their fresh popped popcorn. They have local beers on tap and fresh baked desserts from Morning Glory Bakery, which is a few hundred yards away. This is a great concept that is perfectly executed. On a recent winter trip to Bar Harbor we saw True Grit here and the place was packed. In a tourist destinations the best places are usually the ones that do well with locals and vacationers, this is one of those places.

Being a resident of Bar Harbor, I'm very happy to be able to visit Reel Pizza as much as I can. As a hard of hearing person, they do show lots of foreign films and do have listening devices. My favorite pizza is the "Moonstruck", an Italian four-cheese pizza. Each pizza named after a movie and the movies are only six dollars to get in. They do show rare films that come from Sundance and Cannes, along with Hollywood blockbusters. It's barley ever crowded and they have couches and armchairs as their seats along with small tables. Great amazing service with desert and coffee afterwards. There even an intermission too, to get more pizza or another drink without missing the movie!!! If you get stuck between the moon and Bar Harbor, the best thing you can do is visit Reel Pizza!!! I've been moonstrucked to have the pizza again!!!
(5)Jeremy H.
Score! Some of the best pizza, and some of the best food in BH.. I've never been to a dinner/movie theatre till now, but I've always heard they're awesome - this place is definitely awesome.. We had pizzas w/ soy cheese and they were GREAT and we got to sit in a couch and watch a movie..... dude, why aren't there millions of these everywhere? 5 stars, yall..
(5)Andrea G.
The theater shows two movies everyday and they seem to fluctuate between current releases, old releases, and indie flicks. They seem to change the movies up twice a week. Get there early enough before the movie begins to pick your seat and order your pizza. An ok selection of beers on tap, but could stand for a few more. There's also an intermission for drink refills and foodage in the middle. The pizza is amazing and definitely worth the nom!
(5)Donna M.
This place was so much fun! The pizza was a bit on the pricey side, but totally worth it. The movie tickets were only $6 for an evening show. All the other concessions were cheap too. Another bonus was the seating: there was plenty of leg room and the seats were comfortable. They also had all sorts of yummy toppings for your pizza, parmesan cheese, garlic salt, red pepper flakes. Great place to check out when you're in the area!
(5)Michelle A.
A great movie going experience: Pizza, beer, and the movie The Other guys. Only 6 bucks to enter (cash only) but you can use a credit card for the concession stand I believe. I had a spinach slice and it was actual fresh spinach, it was pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of Maine beer, but the more I drank it, the aftertaste didn't bother me as much. It was just cool to relax, watch a movie and have beer, I wish more places were like that, but they probably would charge an arm and a leg in NJ. We didn't get there early enough to get a good spot on a couch. The only ones available were in the 1st row and I'm not a fan of that spot, so we settled for the counter-top seating. So get there early if you want a spot on a couch.
(5)Alison D.
Couches, TV Trays, Pizza, Beer and Wine - and a movie? I didn't try the pizza, but the popcorn was good. This place is seriously great. I've never been to a theater that even remotely resembles this one! Saw the Hurt Locker there last year. I've already checked out the movies playing for this weekend when I get to go back. Fantastic.
(5)luke c.
Bar Harbor's best pizza, check. Pitchers of beer, check. Movies, check. Did I mention couches? Yeah they got 'em. In this small town, there really aren't any better ways to spend an early evening than in this fine establishment.

We were in Bar Harbor for a long weekend, and the first thing I was told was to make sure I check out the Reel Pizza Cinerama. Clearly, this recommendation was given not only because I love movies (who doesn't?) but also because I am a huge pizza snob, being both Italian and from NY. Allow me to say that DELICIOUS, gourmet, perfectly crispy personal pizzas + beer + great indie movies = my perfect night. Even though the armchairs and sofas in the front of the theater seemed a bit grungy (and probably wouldn't pass the black light scan test), the place was damn near perfect. I would come back just to take out the pizzas. They were that good. Side note: see The Hurt Locker.

Reel Pizza is a Reel Treat! We go there at least every week or two particularly during the summer. The pizza is excellent and very varied - you can get just about whatever you could imagine on a pizza - drinks range from soda to juice to beer and the seating can be a comfy sofa or a more traditional theater type seat. If you're visiting Bar Harbor go to Reel Pizza!
(5)Charlie M.
Great little theater right in center of town that runs mostly independent fare and serves up tasty pizzas and beers. The front part of the theater has couches so you can pretend you are home with the big screen and further back there are counters for your food and drink. Why doesn't every place have these (like McMenamins in Portland, OR?).
(4)Elizabeth O.
Quick update after visiting Reel Pizza this past summer ... Unfortunately, they no longer have the bingo board (they said it needed repairs, but was quite costly). They now have switched to buzzers for when your pizza is ready. However, we still love this little theater and will plan a visit whenever we are vacationing in Bar Harbor!
(4)Cassandra B.
I LOVED this place. My friends and I had some time to kill so we stopped in for a movie and were pleasantly surprised to find tables in the theater so you can eat while you watch the movie. Better yet, there were comfy couches and chairs so we sat there and threw up a little tray to eat off. The movie ticket was only $6, which is super affordable, especially for someone like me who is used to $12 movie tickets in NYC. I was so happy to see they carry vegan cheese and had interesting pizza toppings. I went with a build-your-own pizza w/ soy mozzarella, breaded eggplant, and roasted red peppers. It was very tasty and my non-veg friends also loved the pizza. We also had the chips and salsa, which was dirt cheap ($2.50) but also bland and boring. I think it's just Pace salsa and discount chips. My friend ordered popcorn so I had mine without butter, and hit up the fantastic condiment bar in the back and loaded mine with olive oil, nutritional yeast, salt, and hot pepper. Yum!

I really can't say enough good things about Reel Pizza. I love this place. Most of the year they have a great mix of indie and blockbuster films - they skew a little more blockbuster in the summer to meet tourist appetites, but really, I come mostly for the pizza, beer and popcorn. All are way better than what you'd expect at a movie theatre. You can build your own pizza slices and the popcorn is awesome - mostly because they offer you all the same fixins that you'd put on your pizza with the addition of nutritional yeast (don't knock it til you try it). I recently made the mistake of ordering the endless bowl which is giant but not actually endless. Apparently you only get one refill. I always thought it was endless but now I realize that's probably because I never finished the first bowl and got the warning, "you know this is your last refill". RP also seems to consistently hire only friendly, funny employees - I always like the vibe here. Yay Reel Pizza. I heart you. Pro Tip: Every movie at Reel Pizza has an intermission about half way through the movie to encourage extra pizza and popcorn ordering (and probably to facilitate visits to the facilities). It's also a great time to grab a sweet treat.

What a fun place: pizza, beer, popcorn in Tupperware, and a movie. This is like our seventh vacation in Bar Harbor and I don't know we didn't try out this quaint movie theater that serves awesome pizza. There are two sizes: 10" and 14" with wheat, white, and gluten free crust. The names of the zas are pretty cool and listed on their web page. I don't remember which pizza we got but there were many different types of meat. It was deliciously. The Bar Harbor Real Ale was very tasty. Cash only for the $6 tix. They took credit cards for food and drinks. I wish we had sat in the sofa couches in the front because I just found out they have those breakfast in bed trays. Where we sat, there was a counter table to place our food. Nice place!
(5)Jaye L.
Fun place to watch movie with the whole family. Movie ticket is totally reasonable, $6 per person for current movies. Pizza is good and reasonably priced. Fun to sit in the first 3 rows where they have family size sofas instead of traditional theater chairs. The sofas are very comfortable too.
(5)Kevin S.
Get there early for the couches and tv trays. Free water inside the theater was a nice surprise. Intermission was great for kids. Tickets were only $6 and a bowl popcorn was $5 with one free refill. Plenty of popcorn at a bottom dollar rate. This business is a hidden American jewel.
(5)Joe L.
Was looking forward to this movie theater, but you had to wait outside in the rain before you can be admitted to your movie. You literally cannot wait in the theater lobby. The strangest thing I have ever seen. Once we got outside we were told we were standing too close to the door and the guy literally walked outside and drew an imaginary line with his hand and said "please don't go past the edge of the window," as he brushed his arm across my body to make me move back. It was only my family and I in line and at that point we openly laughed at him asking if he was kidding and he said "no" and he physically pushed me behind this line. Someone would make a killing in Bar Harbor if they would open up a real movie theater. Customer service is extremely lacking. Would not recommend.
(1)Virginia L.
My kids were ecstatic to see Monster's University at this theater! Very clean, food was very good, pizza reasonable and Loved the refillable (2 Xs) popcorn. The only complaint I have is that there is no organization to the concession stand. People were cutting into other lines because there was no way to tell who was in line or how to line up. there was no "line etiquette as another visitor remarked and people were getting irritated. Be sure to bring cash, its the only thing they take at the ticket office.
(4)Bloss C.
On a whim I came here to watch a hippy dippy nature film from the Sierra Club, because hey, I'm in Maine, time to break out my Birkenstocks! Upon entering the theater I was super disappointed I had just eaten because this place specializes in fancy pants pizza, and the menu looked amazing. I can't say if the pizza is actually good, but the descriptions on the menu were tantalizing. The theater itself has couches and coffee tables in lieu of the usual stadium seats, which was an interesting setup and makes sense since you need a place to rest your awesome pizza while watching the movie. Great experience, would come back any time!
(5)Scott R.
This is more of an experience than just seeing a movie. I give the pizza four stars, a 7 or 8 out of 10. It's thoroughly decent. Not the best I have ever had, but good quality and fresh. I don't drink beer, but it's kinda cool that you can get one there. The ticket prices are actually really good. More than reasonably priced, as is the candy and popcorn (1 refill.) I have had better popcorn but when you put the salt on it is pretty good. Get there early because seating is limited and you want to be able to sit with your family, not be the one group who has to divide up among the remaining single seats in order to fit in the place. I love the fact that there is an intermission.
(4)Peter W.
We went last weekend and saw an early showing of Godzilla at 5:30. We were able to snag a couch on the side and had a couple of trays. They gave us a buzzer to wait for the pizza - a simple Pepperoni pizza, which tasted great. The sodas were a good size. Remember to bring cash. I was caught off guard with the intermission; but I actually liked it since they helped with cleanup. The screen is small and sound is ok. We had a lot of fun.
(4)Taylor L.
Love love love this place!!! The tickets are cheap ($6), they offer all kinds of food and drink, the theatre seating has counters, there's couches up front, and free water in the back. What's not to love? Space is limited so make sure you get there early.
(5)Elle W.
My BF and I instantly agreed that our date to Reel Pizza was the best date night we've had in forever! This is everything a movie experience should be. The pizza was GREAT - at a regular pizza joint I'd think this was good pizza but at a movie theater... the pizza was SPECTACULAR. Then there were the desserts. We had the seven layer bars... YUM! Even better than all that, Reel Pizza did everything to make sure the experience was perfect. They thought of everything; down to the buzzer that rings when your pizza is ready, and oven mitts laying handy to carry your pizza comfortably to your movie seat/table! I LOVE that they did Intermission! Why don't all theaters bring back intermission? Thank you Reel Pizza for an awesome movie night.
(5)Kayla C.
This place is great but you definitely want to get there early to get a good couch to sit on. Ordering pizza is a must. Loved that there is an intermission halfway through the movie. Wish all movie theaters were this casual!
(3)Tom M.
My wife and I love this place. Where else can you go and pay $6 for top notch movies. The kitchen offers up awesome pizza, beer, soups, and tons of popcorn. Seating is very comfy with couches and recliners up front.
